Takeaway in Cavan Town

We offer takeaway gourmet pizza, smash burgers, wings and loaded fries for collection from Church Street, in the middle of Cavan town beside Dunnes Stores. The same kitchen, the same sourdough bases and the same dry aged beef burgers that go out to the tables in the restaurant. Nothing on our takeaway menu is a simplified version of what we serve inside.

What you can collect

The full menu is available for collection. That means sourdough Neapolitan pizza, proved for 72 hours and baked in our stone oven, and dry aged smash burgers made with beef from Herd Butchery in Butlersbridge, a few miles up the road. Sides, and the rest of what is on the board that evening.

We do not run a separate takeaway menu. If you can order it at a table, you can collect it.

How to order

Allow 30 minutes from ordering to ready. On a Friday or Saturday evening it can run longer, because the pizza oven is working through the room as well as the collection orders, and we would rather tell you an honest number than a hopeful one.

Finding the door

This is the part worth reading before you set off.

We are at 9B Church Street, in Abbeyland, and the entrance is behind the Black Horse Inn from the Newcourt Arcade car park. If you are looking for a sign with our name on it from the main street, you will miss us.

Look for the Black Horse Inn, then come round the back. That is the whole trick.

From Market Square it is a few minutes on foot. From Main Street, about the same in the other direction. For collection by car, the nearest parking is around Market Square and the car parks off Main Street, both a short walk away.

Why we do collection rather than delivery

Two reasons.

The first is that delivery platforms take a commission of roughly a quarter to a third of every order. On food made the way we make it, with a three day dough and beef from a named butcher rather than the cheapest available, that commission is most of what is left. We would have to either put the prices up or use worse ingredients, and neither appeals.

The second is that our pizza genuinely does not travel well. A base fermented for 72 hours comes out with an open, blistered crust, and that crust starts to soften the moment it goes into a box and the steam has nowhere to escape. Fifteen minutes in a car and you have a good pizza rather than the pizza we actually made.

Collection is a five minute walk from most of the town centre. Eat it fast and it is very close to what comes out of the oven.

When to collect

We are open Thursday to Sunday evenings.

Thursday, Friday 5pm to 9pm

Saturday 4pm to 9pm

Sunday 3pm to 8pm

The busiest window is between about half seven and nine on Friday and Saturday. If you want your food quickly, order either side of that. Thursday and Sunday evenings are calmer throughout, and the wait is usually shorter.

Questions people ask

Is there a takeaway near me in Cavan town centre?

If you are anywhere in the centre of Cavan town, you are within a few minutes walk of us. We are on Church Street in Abbeyland, behind the Black Horse Inn, a few minutes from Market Square.

Where can I get sourdough pizza near me in Cavan?

Here. We bake Neapolitan sourdough in a stone oven from a dough proved for 72 hours, and it is available to collect the same as everything else on the menu.

Do you deliver?

No. We do collection only, from Church Street. The reasons are set out above, and the short version is that the food is better if you carry it a hundred yards than if it sits in a car for twenty minutes.

Can I collect the full menu or just part of it?

The full menu. There is no reduced takeaway version.

What restaurants are open near me tonight in Cavan?

We open Thursday to Sunday evenings. Outside those days we are closed, so it is worth checking the day before heading down.

Where do I park to collect?

Our door is in the Newcourt Arcade Car park and on Church Street through the pub opposite Dunnes Stores – the Black Horse Inn. Allow a little extra on a Friday or Saturday evening, when collection traffic and people heading out for the night arrive at the same time.
